Install Aloha Pos On Windows 7

The following is a list I like to follow when preparing an OS for use with Aloha. Several options are my personal preference and not all items pertain to all environments. Use at your own risk.

NETWORK

NIC set to LANA 0 (Windows 7/2008 top binding under Advanced Connections)
Disable IP v6 in LAN properties. (Windows 7/2008 also disable in registry)
Disable Power Management on NIC
Disable Flow Control on NIC
Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP
Change Duplex if applicable

REGISTRY

Disable DHCP Media Sense –HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParameters > DWORD “DisableDHCPMediaSense” Value should be 1
Disable IPv6 - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/TCPIP6/Parameters > DWORD “DisabledComponents” Value should be 0
(Windows 7/2008) Disable Client Side Caching (CSC/Offline Caching) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/CSC > DWORD “Start” Value should be 4
(Windows 7/2008) When mixing with XP terminals change NewSmb to 0. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesnetbtParameters > DWORD “UseNewSmb” Value should be 0 Local Security Policy - Local Policies/Security Options > LAN manager authentication level to “Send LM & NTLM use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”.
(Windows XP/7/2008) Fix “Out of Resources” error HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory Management > DWORD “LargeSystemCache” Value should be 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesLanmanServerParameters > DWORD “Size” Value should be 3

MISC

Disable DEP (Windows 7/2008 Bcdedit.exe /set nx AlwaysOff)
Disable Simple File Sharing
Disable Firewall (Server leave on, but exclude proper ports)
Antivirus exclude Aloha folders (BIN,DATA,NEWDATA,FTP,VBO,EDC) and proper extensions (DBF,CDX,TDX,INI,LOG,REQ,ANS,XML,CFG,SPL,STL)
Disable Hard Drive Write Caching
Workgroup should be the same across all PC’s
Disable FIFO on COM ports for terminals
Disable power management (Standby, Hibernation, Hard Disks)
Recommended - Disable System Restore
Recommended - Disable Windows Automatic Updates (Server set to “Download Updates but allow user to install)
Recommended - Disable Internet Time synchronization on terminals
Recommended - Disable Indexing service
Recommended - Disable Computer Browser service
Recommended - Virtual Space (Pagefile) should be set to system managed, not custom

Server Only

Set Processor Performance priority to background services (Leave at Programs if this is FOH/BOH)
Windows 7/Server 2008 install/run Aloha executables as “administrator” and set to Windows XP SP3 compatibility if experiencing issues.
Run CTLSVR/EDCSVR under user account used by the terminals to login to Windows. Make sure account is an administrator. This same user should have full read/write access on the BOOTDRV share across all PC’s.

Well, since Windows 10 is a free update I'm trying to get our Windows 7 systems updated. On my lab key system with Windows 10 32 bit I've updated it, manually edited the LANA and got the terminals bouncing (Still see a LANA error in the logs though, haven't jumped into that yet...). I'm running into a problem with grinding though. I get the 'Missing security key' when it gets to the trans.log part of the grind. Funny that Aloha works otherwise. Any thoughts on why it won't grind, but works otherwise? They key is good, and was working under Windows 7 with zero issues.
